Within the manufacture of paper a great deal of chemicals are utilised for increasing process efficiencies and for biological control.
In addition the process relies heavily on the use of steam within the drier sections and they will, therefore, have cooling towers which will use water which must be treated. In some paper mills they will not only have industrial effluent treatment but they will recycle water and recover fibre at various stages of the process. For example de-inking plants.
